Avril Lavigne‘s new album will be produced by LINKIN PARK producer DON GILMORE, not THE MATRIX.

The Canadian’s new album, due for release later this year, will take on a darker, more angsty feel than the multi-platinum ‘Let Go’, reports Rolling Stone. However, ‘Don’t Tell Me’, likely to be the first single from the forthcoming release, is closer to debut hit ‘Complicated’.

Ex-Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody, also makes an appearance on album track ‘Nobody’s Home’.

“I have more creative control now,” said [a][/a]. “This album is not as slick. I’m just writing the music I like. I listen to rock, and I listen to dark stuff, but I also like good pop songs. Everybody does.”

The currently untitled album will be released in May.
