The guests of honour will cover classic Metallica songs...


and Janet Jackson will honour metal heavyweights METALLICA in a special MTV tribute to the band being recorded next month.

All four guests of honour will cover classic Metallica songs in a 90-minute ‘MTVIcon:Metallica’ special to be recorded in Los Angeles on May 3. More unconfirmed Metallica -influenced artists are expected to join the cast paying tribute to their heroes with testimonials and live performances. The show will be broadcast on May 14 in the UK.

The show is the third in the annual MTVIcon series, which has previously honoured Aerosmith and[/a]. It will be Metallica‘s first public outing with new bassist Robert Trujillo who comes from [a] ‘s band to replace Jason Newsted. In an unlikely twist, Newsted – who left in 2001 – has since joined forces with the Prince of Darkness and will complete [a][/a]’s backing-band at this summer’s Ozzfest.

Metallica are set to release their new album ‘St. Anger’ on June 9 – their first studio album since 1997’s ‘Reload’. The band then set off on their second Summer Sanitarium Tour of the US on July 4 with Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, href=””>Deftones and href=””>Mudvayne.
