Cancer Bats’ Liam Cormier: ‘I definitely see AxeWound continuing beyond this record’

The singer tells NME all about his 'super metal alter ego'

Cancer Bats frontman Liam Cormier has spoke about his new sideproject AxeWound and has said he believes it will continue long into the future.

The group, which also features Bullet For My Valentine‘s Matt Tuck, former Rise To Remain bassist Joe Copcutt, Pitchshifter drummer Jason Bowld and Glamour Of The Kill’s Mike Kingswood in its line-up, will release their debut album ‘Vultures’ on October 1 and Cormier has said that the five-piece are really enjoying working together.

Speaking to NME about ‘Vultures’, Cormier said: “I’m stoked that record’s going to come out. I’m pumped it’s worked out the way it has. I’m going to be touring solidly with Cancer Bats, but I’m so excited to get on the road with AxeWound.”

Cormier then described the band as his “super metal alter ego”, adding: “It’s really fun because it’s so different, it’s like having an alter ego, a super metal alter ego. I get to do things I’d never do with Cancer Bats, like wear camouflage shorts on stage and a flipped up hat and be the thrash guy. I didn’t know anybody other than Matt in the band before I joined, but they’re all so nice.”

Then asked if he thought the band would continue beyond their first album and their October UK tour, Cormier said he definitely believed it would.

He said when asked if the band had any longevity to it: “It feels like a bunch of friends hanging out, we get really giddy when ever we do anything. I definitely see it continuing beyond this record. We all get along so well and we’re having such a good time. We’ll do it whenever we got time. It’s very relaxed, we’ll do it whenever we’ve got time.
