Azealia Banks announces she’s working with Missy Elliot after signing with Lady Gaga’s manager

Producer Diplo tells NME it's not the first time the pair will have worked together

Azealia Banks has announced she’s working on new material with Missy Elliot.

Earlier this week, the rapper revealed she had signed with Lady Gaga’s manager Troy Carter and was delaying her ‘1991’ EP after securing a bigger recording budget, promising she would be putting out “no more ghetto mixes”.

Tweeting today, Banks suggested she was daunted by the hook-up with rapper Elliott, commenting:

Producer Diplo, who recently worked with Banks on her track ‘Fuck Up The Fun’, told NME this week that Azealia had previously worked with him on material with the Grammy-winning hip-hop star. “I met her about four of five years ago on Myspace and she used to come to my old studio in Philly. She even worked on some suff with me for Missy Elliott once”.

Banks’ debut album is scheduled for release in September on Interscope. She signed to Universal Music in January after parting ways with British indie label XL Recordings, which is home to Adele, after citing conflicting creative visions. Meanwhile, Elliott is expected to release her first album in seven years, tentatively titled ‘Block Party, this summer.
