Azealia Banks says that rapping is ‘kind of tacky’

'212' singer also says she wants to release two albums in 2013

Azealia Banks has revealed that she thinks rapping is “kind of tacky”.

In an interview with HypeTrak, the hip-hop star said that she’d eventually like to stop rapping so she could focus on other musical styles – although she did also claim that she hopes to release two studio albums in 2013.

“If I have things my way, if the universe allows me to do things the way I want to do them, I want to get two albums out in 2013,” she said, before hinting that she may look towards other genres in the future. “Not necessarily take a break, but do some sound research and come up with a different style,” she said.

She then added:

I’d eventually like to stop rapping. That’s the honest truth. One day I don’t want to rap anymore. Just because I think it’s… easy, but I think it’s kind of tacky. I think it’s very unlady like. I like it. But, I think I’m going to get tired of it.

She went on to say: “I’d like to get two albums, get all the urban stuff, rap music, whatever ideas I have in me out and into fruition, and then maybe go back to school and take voice lessons again. Do contemporary jazz or whatever. But I definitely don’t see myself being a rapper forever.”

Banks recently confirmed that she’s been working with both Lady Gaga and Kanye West. “I worked with Lady Gaga, but I worked with Lady Gaga from afar,” she said. “We worked via email and via Internet. We have a song called ‘Red Flame’ and a song called ‘Ratchet,’ but I don’t know what she’s doing with it. She’s going to release it when she wants to release it.”

“Working with Kanye was a lot of fun,” she added. “I just kind of went out to Hawaii for vacation, and he has a studio out there. And he was just like, ‘You should really come to the studio,’ so I went to the studio and just worked it out.”

She is set to release her debut album ‘Broke With Expensive Taste’ in February 2013. You can watch the video for her track ‘Atlantis’, taken from her ‘Fantasea’ mixtape, by clicking at the bottom of the page.
