But the '212' rapper says the hip-hop world is full of 'bird-brained men'
Azealia Banks says she’s drooling over Interpol’s Paul Banks because the hip-hop world is full of “bird-brained men”.
Speaking to NME, the ‘212’ rapper says she doesn’t want to be a part of the rap game because it’s too backwards-looking.
“I’m gonna do whatever the fuck I wanna do,” she said. “You rap game rap niggers, you stupid, like, closed-minded not-ready-to-progress-with-culture people can stay where you are, because I don’t do this for y’all. I don’t do this to impress you guys and I don’t do this for your approval; I do this because I like to do this. And I feel like that’s what the hip-hop world in the US is having a hard time understanding.”
She added: “That’s not all of the hip-hop world, that’s just the bird-brained men, you know. The women get it, the girls are rooting for me, you know? It’s the men. And I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I’m not worried about impressing them. As a woman they expect you to be drooling all over them, but I don’t give a fuck. I’m drooling over guys like Paul Banks from Interpol and stuff like that.”
Speaking about the release of her debut album ‘Broke With Expensive Taste’, which has now been pushed back to February 2013, she said that the new material was sounding “fucking strong. Like strong, like ‘212’ strong,” before confirming that Drums Of Death are set to feature on the LP.
When asked who she would like to collaborate with on the LP, she said Canadian electropop star Grimes, adding that a collaboration would “definitely” happen in the future.
“I’d love to work with Grimes. I think everything she’s doing right now is just so good,” she said. “I love her. She has the best hair. She does the coolest things with her hair and I copy her hairstyles a lot ‘cos it’s so cute.”
The rapper put out her 19-track mix tape ‘Fantasea’, which featured a cover of The Prodigy’s ‘Out Of Space’ in July.
