BABYBIRD will release a new single ‘Bad Old Man’ on April 27, the first track from the band’s as-yet untitled new album which is due in August. It is backed by ‘Fucklove’, ‘Hospital Bed’, ‘All I Know’ and ‘Comeback Scumbag’.
A spokeswoman says the band recorded the album – the follow-up to 1997’s ‘Dying Happy’ – at Il Cortege studios in southern Spain, the studio where Bjork recorded ‘Homogenic’. Singer Steven Jones (above) originally wrote 40 songs for the release, 11 of which will appear on the album. The tracks are currently being sequenced at a London studio.
The spokeswoman adds: “The album is a merging of BabyBird’s early lo-fi sound with the band sound. The band have very much been involved with it and it sounds brilliant.”
BabyBird have also announced they will play their first UK live dates this year at Colchester Arts Centre (April 25 and 26) and London Bloomsbury Theatre (27). Support has yet to be announced.
