Plus Babyshambles man scoops some free kicks over
Pete Doherty made the final with his Babyshambles football team at the Soccer Six football tournament yesterday (May 18) – although the man himself didn’t quite show himself as the next Cristiano Ronaldo.
The event was organised to raise awareness for The Samaritans charity.
The band beat The Twang on their way to the final, although they took a while to get going, drawing 1-1 with The Sun‘s team early on.
“It was billed as a grudge match,” said promoter and band manager Mike Jonns, who was playing on The Sun‘s team against Babyshambles. “It certainly was – the tackles went flying in from the off.
“Mr Doherty’s contribution to the match consisted of two free kicks which flew over the bar and almost falling over as he chased a long ball down to the right hand side.
Doherty’s off-pitch performance was just as lively as he hurled abuse, mud and grass at The Sun team from the sidelines with his trademark trilby and fag in hand.”
