Babyshambles’ Drew McConnell plays acoustic pub show

Bassist dedicates set to incarcerated bandmate Pete Doherty

Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell played a solo acoustic show last night (May 1) at the Filthy McNasty’s pub in Islington, London.

McConnel played songs by both Babyshambles and his band, Helsinki, and dedicated the set to his incarcerated bandmate Pete Doherty.

The choice of venue was a poignant one for Doherty‘s friend and bandmate.

Doherty used to live above the pub, and his former band The Libertines regularly used to play shows there. A photograph of him and fellow former-Libertine Carl Barat was propped up behind the stage throughout the set.

After taking the stage at 10pm (BST), the biggest cheers of McConnell‘s set came as he played Babyshambles songs ‘Beg, Steal Or Borrow’ and the closing ‘Albion’.

During ‘Ribtickling’, McConnell invited a fan, “Ashley“, onto the stage to play the tambourine throughout the set. Then while he played ‘Albion’, “Texas Bob” – a Babyshambles associate who regularly videos the band’s live performances – played harmonica.

Drew McConnell played:

‘Lagrimas De Oro’

‘This Love’

‘Bit Part’

‘Ampersand’

‘Ribtickling’

‘Beg, Steal Or Borrow’

‘Albion’
