Pete Doherty avoids jail

Babyshambles man sentenced for drug and driving offences

Babyshambles‘ frontman Pete Doherty avoided jail today (October 26), and was instead given a suspended custodial sentence plus a fine.

Doherty was in West London Magistrates’ Court to face sentencing for drug and driving offences after being arrested in May.

Judge Davinder Lachlar had previously said that she would make her judgement on Doherty’s fate based on medical reports from his drug rehab supervisors.

As Doherty had reacted positively to drug rehab, instead of jail he was given a four month custodial sentence suspended for two years.

He was also given an 18-month supervision order and a one-year drug rehabilitation order.

Doherty was fined £475 for the specific crime of driving without insurance and an MOT.

“You have made strides and I hope you will continue in doing so,” said Judge Lachlar, referring to Doherty‘s recovery from drug addiction. “I would hate to see you going backwards.”
