Joe Biden has also got involved in the White House festive music-planning

Barack Obama has released a Christmas playlist via the official White House Spotify account.

The President’s 14-track playlist features Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey alongside Frank Sinatra, Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder. Christmas carol classics ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Away In A Manger’ also feature.

Vice President Joe Biden also got involved in the playlist fun, putting forward a 17-track list featuring Paul McCartney, U2, Tom Petty, Coldplay and Bruce Springsteen. His Christmas classics include ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘Wexford Carol’.

This White House has a history of using music both for leisure and to make political points. The First Lady Michelle Obama recently made a shout out by rap to encourage Americans to go to college, as part of the Better Make Room campaign, while a number of high-profile musicians have been invited to perform in Washington.

Barack Obama has previously revealed that his favourite song of 2015 is Kendrick Lamar’s ‘How Much A Dollar Costs’, from Lamar’s ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’, which was also NME’s number two album of the year.

The President even launched his own Spotify channel earlier this year.
