Basshunter cleared of sexual assault charges

Swedish DJ had been accused of 'slapping a girl's bare backside' in a Scottish nightclub

Swedish DJ Basshunter has been cleared of two charges of sexual assault.

The DJ, whose real name is Jonas Altberg, had been charged after an incident at Kitty’s nightclub in Kirkcaldy in the early hours of December 10, 2010 in which a girl had accused him of pulling up her dress and slapping her bare bottom.

However Sheriff Maxwell Hendry ruled yesterday (June 14) in court in Fife that the evidence of the two girls who had accused Altberg was “neither credible nor reliable”, reports the Daily Record.

He also added:”The witnesses’ evidence was riddled with inconsistencies and improbabilities. They posed for photographs, ignored advice to contact police and instead contacted a newspaper before giving statements.”

Basshunter himself had said of the alleged incident at the trial: “This has never happened in 1000 shows. I do this five days a week and meet 300,000 people every year and there has never been a complaint about my behaviour before. I can’t remember the girls or anything from that night because it was a perfect night.”

The DJ has had two Top Ten UK singles, including 2008’s ‘Now You’re Gone’ which got to Number One. He also appeared as a contestant on last year’s Celebrity Big Brother.
