Basshunter arrested on sexual assault charges

Swedish DJ denies sexually assaulting two women in Scotland

Basshunter has been arrested on sexual assault charges by Scottish police.

The Swedish DJ, real name Jonas Erik Altberg, was charged by the Fife Constabulary after an incident at Kitty’s nightclub in Kirkcaldy in the early hours of Friday (December 10), reports BBC News.

He has been released on bail but must appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in January.

A Fife Constabulary spokesman said: “Police in Fife can confirm that a 25 year-old man has been arrested in relation to alleged offences committed at Kitty’s, Hunter Street, Kirkcaldy, and has been bailed to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in due course.”

Basshunter‘s manager Scott Simons has described the allegations as “totally untrue”, but said that Altberg would co-operate fully with the police investigation.

Even before it was announced he’d been arrested, Kitty’s had issued an apology over Altberg’s behaviour during his appearance at the nightclub, stating: “We were totally embarrassed by his conduct.”

Basshunter has had two Top Ten UK singles, including 2008’s ‘Now You’re Gone’ which got to Number One. He also appeared as a contestant on this year’s Celebrity Big Brother on UK TV.
