The Nashville rockers get creamy at secret gig
Be Your Own Pet ignited a mass food fight at the end of a surprise gig in London tonight (March 17).
The Nashville group were performing at Dalston‘s Vision Videobar, when they brought out whipped cream in the final two songs and pelted the crowd, who retaliated with more cream.
The free gig had been announced via a Myspace bulletin, and was held in celebration of the release of their second album ‘Get Awkward’.
Performing tracks including ‘Black Hole’, ‘Blow Your Mind’ and ‘Super Soaked’ alongside older songs like ‘Adventure’ and ‘Wildcat!’, the band were in typically energetic form, playing their instruments over their head and destroying the drumkit at the end of the set.
Guitarist Jonas Stein and bassist Nathan Vasquez even ended the set wrestling each other in the middle of the audience.
Speaking to NME.COM after the gig, singer Jemina Pearl Abegg said: “We’ve done the food fight two times already, and it’s been pretty brutal. Tonight was the most tame though.
“It’s not a shame [that it was tame], do you want your clothes permanently stained? Do you want to have to throw away your underwear because it’s stained with peas and ketchup? Do you want to wash spaghetti o’s out of your hair for a week? No, you don’t. Be thankful this was tame.
“I thought it’d be a cool idea. It was fun the first time!”
Be Your Own Pet played:
‘The Kelly Affair’
‘We Will Vacation, You Can Be My Parasol’
‘Blow Yr Mind’
‘Bicycle, Bicycle, You Are My Bicycle’
