Beach House share new single ‘Sparks’ – listen

Fifth album 'Depression Cherry' will be released in August

Beach House have unveiled the first single from their upcoming new album.

The band recently announced details of their fifth album. The record, entitled ‘Depression Cherry’, follows on from 2012’s ‘Bloom’ and will be released on August 28.

‘Sparks’ is the first track revealed from the LP and can be streamed below.

In a press release, the band describe their forthcoming full-length as “a return to simplicity, with songs structured around a melody and a few instruments, with live drums playing a far lesser role”.

The band continue that their growing success meant that “larger stages and bigger rooms naturally drove us towards a louder, more aggressive place; a place farther from our natural tendencies”, with the new effort seeing the band continuing “to let ourselves evolve while fully ignoring the commercial context in which we exist”.

Of the album’s title, the band add: “For us, ‘Depression Cherry’ is a colour, a place, a feeling, an energy… that describes the place you arrive as you move through the endlessly varied trips of existence.”

The ‘Depression Cherry’ tracklist is as follows:

‘Levitation’
‘Sparks’
‘Space Song’
‘Beyond Love’
’10:37′
‘PPP’
‘Wildflower’
‘Bluebird’
‘Days of Candy’

The band have also announced tour dates, including shows in the UK and Ireland for October. They will play the following live dates:

Belfast Mandela Hall (October 24)
Dublin Vicar Street (25)
Glasgow ABC (26)
Manchester Ritz (27)
London Shepherds Bush Empire (30)
