Liam Gallagher takes legal action against US newspaper over ‘secret love child’ allegations

Singer to sue New York Post over claims he fathered a child to a woman in America

Liam Gallagher is taking legal action against a US newspaper over reports that he allegedly fathered a “love child” with a New York music journalist.

The New York Post published an article yesterday (July 17) which claimed the woman, who says the Beady Eye man fathered her daughter, had launched legal action in a Manhattan court for $3 million (£1.9 million) for paternity. The case was listed only as ‘Anonymous Vs Anonymous’ and came before a judge at Manhattan Family Court on Friday (July 12). The case was adjourned until later this month.

A spokesman for Gallagher confirmed that the singer is launching legal action against the paper, adding: “Liam Gallagher’s lawyers are taking legal action against New York Post – further to that we don’t comment on gossip such as this.”

It’s since been reported by the New York Daily News and several other outlets that the mother of the alleged love child is Liza Ghorbani, a music journalist who interviewed Gallagher in 2010 for a recurring column in The New York Times called ‘A Night Out With…’. The two are said to have had a “fling” and this January (2013) Ghorbani gave birth to a daughter, Emma, whose father, she’s reportedly claiming, is Gallagher.

Bill Beslow, a New York lawyer whose previous clients include Nicole Kidman and Robert De Niro, has confirmed that he is representing “the mother”, the Daily Mail reports, but refused to disclose her identity.

Liam Gallagher already has three children – 12-year-old Gene from his current marriage to former All Saints singer Nicole Appleton and 13-year-old Lennon from his previous marriage with actress Patsy Kensit. He also has a daughter, 15-year-old Molly, with Lisa Moorish.
