Beady Eye’s Liam Gallagher: ‘I’ve quit alcohol after 20 years’

Singer also sheds further light on why he didn't attend Noel Gallagher's wedding

Beady Eye‘s frontman Liam Gallagher has said that he’s quit drinking alcohol after 20 years.

The singer has revealed that he has been sober for six months during a busy touring period for his current band.

“If I have a drink, I’ll be on the Christmas special, I haven’t had a drink since New Year’s Eve,” he said before adding: “I’m having a bit of a break. I went 20 years drinking and messing about. It’s rubbish.”

Gallagher said his drinking got so bad during Oasis‘ landmark performances at Knebworth in 1996 that he forgot the band were doing two nights.

“At Knebworth I thought we were doing one night and we were doing two,” he told Alan Carr‘s Chatty Man show which is due to air at 10pm on Channel 4 tonight (July 1). “I got that mashed on the first I woke up to a knock on the door and thought I was at home. I forgot all about it. But I had to go and do it again. That was heavy.”

The Beady Eye man also said he was so drunk during the height of Oasis‘ fame in the ’90s, that he woke up next to Alan Partridge star Steve Coogan.

Gallagher finally shed further light on why he didn’t attend Noel Gallagher’s recent wedding to Sara McDonald.

“I wouldn’t have gone anyway, I was busy,” he added. “If I had I’d have had a drink and it would have gone pear-shaped. It would’ve been like [US ’80s TV soap] Dynasty.”
