Rapper Beanie Sigel in critical condition after being shot in the stomach

The incident took place outside his home in Pleasantville, New Jersey

Rapper Beanie Sigel is in a critical condition after being shot in the stomach.

Spin reports that Sigel was shot once outside his home in Pleasantville, New Jersey earlier today (December 5) by an ‘unknown assailant’. CBS Philly adds that the rapper – real name Dwight Grant – is in a critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment at the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. The shooting is under investigation.

Sigel was recently released from prison after serving two years for owing $728,000 (£466,891) in back taxes as well as for drugs charges. He released his debut album ‘The Truth’ in 2000. The title track was produced by Kanye West and Sigel’s mentor Jay-Z featured on a number of songs. His last album ‘This Time’, was his sixth, and was released in 2012, just before he went to jail.

In 2003 Sigel was charged with attempted murder after injuring two people with a handgun, but he was found not guilty of the charges. He has previously been shot, during a robbery in Philadelphia in 2006.
