Beavis & Butt-Head have returned in a new video created for Portugal. The Man‘s tour.
The band scored a huge hit last year with their single ‘Feel It Still’, taken from their eighth full-length album.
On their current tour, Portugal. The Man have been opening each show with a special, one-off video of Beavis & Butt-Head, edited by the cartoon’s creator.
The video sees the iconic characters watching the video for ‘Feel It Still,’ which they’re quick to criticize. “This whole video’s a crime scene,” Butt-Head says of the visual.
Later on, Butt-Head has an epiphany about why he thinks the video sucks so much. “He’s not misunderstood; it is us who have misunderstood. This does suck, but this sucks so hard that it sucked a hole through the dimensional wall into awesomeness,” he says.
“When you compress this much crap under the force of this much pretension, you create a beautiful diamond. This is the greatest band that has ever walked the Earth, but they do not walk the Earth, they float above it, for they are as Gods. They are better than The Beatles, better than The Rolling Stones, better than Silverchair, almost as good as Pantera. They are our rightful lords and masters. Ladies and gentlemen, bow down to the greatest band in the world, Portugal. The Man.” You can watch it below.
Speaking of how they wrote their massive hit, the band said “it was the easiest song” they’ve ever done.
“Which is frustrating. Ha,” they told NME. “John was just playing that bass line in a side room while we were supposed to be working on another song. Our buddy Asa Tacone from Electric Guest threw a mic on the amp and recorded it. We started banging on the table and made a quick fake beat. He was whooping in the mic and pitching it down. Asked John to start singing some shit. The verse vocals on the album were that first night. We had the song in about an hour. Silly. Some songs can take us a year.”
