Meanwhille, Hamm recently suggested a Mad Men spin-off series centred on Sally Draper, the daughter of his character Don, in which she would become a Joan Jett-like rock star in the 70s and date Kurt Cobain in the 90s.

He explained: “We would want to watch Sally grow up. Move through the 70s and turn into a rock star and turn into Joan Jett or something. Ride a motorcycle and kill a guy. Make a bunch of money and then become Oliver Stone in the 80s. Date Kurt Cobain in the 90s. She’s just a touchstone for every generation. Yeah, I’d watch that show. Sally Through the Decades.”

Asked about Hamm’s mooted spin-off, actress Kiernan Shipka – who played Sally Draper on the show – replied: “That was funny! I think they all decided the title would be Sally Through the Decades! I’m good with it. I’m not saying no.”
