Belle And Sebastian to play Sundance Film Festival

Band will perform after premier of Stuart Murdoch's 'God Help The Girl' film

Belle & Sebastian will perform at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday (January 20).

The Scottish six-piece, who released their second compilation album ‘Third Eye Centre’ last August, will play at the Utah festival’s Music Café directly after the premiere of frontman Stuart Murdoch’s film ‘God Help The Girl’.

God Help The Girl is a project of Murdoch’s that dates back to an idea he had while on tour in 2004 with Belle And Sebastian’s album ‘Dear Catastrophe Waitress’. The idea was that Murdoch would assemble a group of female vocalists to sing songs he’d written about the life of young women. First came the album, in 2009, featuring the voices of, among others, Brittany Stallings, Dina Bankole and Celia Garcia. The film was shot in Glasgow in 2012 and stars Emily Browning, Olly Alexander and Hannah Murray.

In addition Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Flea and composer Ohad Talmor will perform at ‘A Celebration Of Music In Film’ on January 19 at Sundance House. Rae Spoon from the documentary-musical ‘My Prairie Home’ will also perform at the event, which will be hosted by the Sundance Institute Film Music Program.
