Best Coast planning ‘grown up’ second album

Bethany Cosentino says her debut sounds 'like a young girl crying and whining about her life'

Best Coast‘s Bethany Cosentino has said that the second album from her band will be more “grown up” and less focused on her relationships.

The band are currently working on the follow-up to their debut album ‘Crazy For You’ in Los Angeles and are expected to release the record next summer, with Cosentino promising a more mature album.

She told Alternative Press: “The new songs include less melodrama about ‘My boyfriend is annoying and doesn’t like me’ and more about me and what’s going on in my life not in relationships.”

Cosentino also spoke about the album’s themes and has said that the lyrics will focus on how her life has changed since Best Coast became successful.

She added: “It’s more dealing with how my life’s totally, drastically changed from being a college dropout sitting on the couch watching TV to being a professional musician. The album will be a grown up record. ‘Crazy For You’ sounds like a young girl whining about her life. I hope this ones comes across more as a young woman who’s growing up a little bit.”

Best Coast recently parted ways with their drummer Ali Koehler, who has since stated that she was thrown out of the band rather than choosing to leave herself.
