Best Coast drummer Ali Koehler says leaving the band was ‘not my choice’

Best Coast drummer Ali Koehler has said that she is no longer a member of Best Coast.

The drummer (pictured above, on the left) who joined the band from Vivian Girls last year, Tweeted yesterday to say that she was no longer part of the California trio, adding that it was “not my choice” to leave the band.

“Cat’s outta the bag, I’m not in Best Coast anymore,” wrote Koehler at, before going on to say “your guess is as good as mine” when fans asked her the reason for her departure and “I’m sorry, I’m equally disappointed”.


She stated that she will continue to play music, just not with Best Coast. “Whether it’s in a basement or at an amphitheater, you will always see me playing music in some capacity. Hopefully sooner than later.” For more information on Ali Koehler’s solo material visit her Bandcamp page.

Best Coast‘s Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno are currently recording the follow up to 2010’s ‘Crazy For You’ at Capitol Records in Los Angeles, with Jon Brion producing.
