Monique, full name Tiffany Monique Riddick, sang backing vocals for Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera before joining The Mamas in 2007. She grew up in Newark, New Jersey, and said she was inspired to become a singer after seeing Whitney Houston on TV.

In 2013, Monique and her fellow Mamas singers Crystal Collins and Montina Cooper-Donnell told US radio station Hot 97 about singing on tour with Beyonce. Monique said: “There are so many different components. The Mamas do choreography, so we work on dance steps. You can’t be with Bey and not have steps now.”

Monique has posted regular updates on Facebook about her battle with cancer. She wrote on Monday (March 9): “Fevers, a-fib, no food or water since last Tuesday. Quite a bit of pain and a lot of fatigue today. I’m finally ‘comfortable’, so I’m gonna get some sleep while the going is good. #fckcancer #godsgotthis #bravethestorm.”
