Prince William and Kate Middleton meet Beyoncé and Jay Z – watch

Royal couple met pop stars during basketball game in NYC

Prince William and Kate Middleton rubbed shoulders with a different kind of royalty when they bumped into pop stars Beyoncé and Jay Z at a basketball game in New York.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were sat opposite the singer and rapper during Monday’s Brooklyn Nets vs Cleveland Cavaliers game at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, which featured NBA star LeBron James.

Video footage shows Beyoncé and Jay Z crossing the court between quarters to greet the royal couple, who look excited to meet the musicians. It was a meeting that concluded the first leg of Will and Kate’s American visit, which saw the duo also meeting President Barack Obama as well as Hillary Clinton.

Outside the venue, race relations demonstrators were holding a “die-in” protest against a grand jury’s decision not to indict the police officer who was involved in the death of Eric Garner, an asthmatic black man who died after being subjected to a chokehold by officers trying to arrest him.

Last week, Beyoncé was named the most nominated female artist in Grammy Award history after receiving 47 nominations for Grammys throughout her career. The ‘Drunk In Love’ singer’s last LP, ‘Beyoncé’, has been nominated in the Best Urban Contemporary Album category for the upcoming 57th awards. So far, the singer has won 17 Grammy Awards.

Beyoncé’s relationship with husband Jay Z made headlines this summer after footage was leaked showing Solange Knowles attacking Jay Z in a lift at New York’s Standard Hotel as Beyoncé looked on. The couple have put on a united front since.
