Beyonce concert delayed by bad weather on Beyonce Day in Minnesota

State had officially declared May 23 in Beyonce’s honour

A Beyonce concert taking place on the newly-inaugurated ‘Beyonce Day’ in Minneapolis had to be delayed for 45 minutes last night (May 23) due to bad weather.

At 8.15pm, just 15 minutes before Beyonce was due on stage, the 35,000 fans at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis had to be evacuated to due a lightning storm over the venue.

Fans were eventually allowed in to the stadium at 9pm. At the start of the two-hour show, Beyonce announced: “Thank you for riding out the storm with me.”

Earlier the same day, Minnesota governor Mark Dayton had declared May 23 as Beyonce Day for 24 hours.

Dayton’s official proclamation for Beyonce Day stated: “Beyonce has influenced many women and young girls with powerful, positive messages in her songs.”

During the concert, Beyonce seemed determined to make clear that she had forgiven her husband Jay-Z for the problems in their marriage that inspired her new album ‘Lemonade’. Singing the line “Becky with the good hair” from ‘Sorry’, Beyonce rolled her eyes, while she declared ‘Lemonade’ love song ‘All Night’ to be “My favourite song off my new album.”

Near the end of the show, Beyonce announced “Prince, I love you” before performing her regular cover of Prince’s ‘The Beautiful Ones’.

Beyonce’s ‘Formation’ tour reaches the UK on June 28, starting in Sunderland.

Sunderland Stadium Of Light (June 28)
Cardiff Principality Stadium (30)
Wembley Stadium (July 2-3)
