Beyonce: ‘I took a break from music to protect my mental health’

Singer spent sabbatical watching Jay-Z gigs and visiting Great Wall Of China

Beyonce has revealed she took a year off from music in order to protect her mental health.

The former Destiny’s Child singer said that things were “beginning to get fuzzy” before her mum stepped in and ordered her to take a sabbatical from music last year.

She told The Sun:

I couldn’t even tell which day or which city I was at. I would sit there at ceremonies and they would give me an award and I was just thinking about the next performance. My mother was very persistent and she kept saying that I had to take care of my mental health.

The singer spent her time off visiting museums, ballet shows and the Great Wall Of China, along with watching gigs by her husband Jay-Z.

She added:

I got the chance to see the Jay-Z shows in the audience which I had never been able to do, so I was really inspired. I’ve always been a Jay-Z groupie.

Beyonce returned with her aptly-titled fourth album ‘4’ earlier this year before receiving widespread acclaim for her headline sets at Glastonbury and T In The Park.
