Beyonce is reportedly planning a surprise performance at tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in New York City.
The ‘Lemonade’ singer is this year’s leading contender with 11 nominations but in the run-up to the event MTV has not announced that she will be performing. However, the LA Times reports that Beyoncé has been in “top secret rehearsals” and Billboard says an unnamed source has tipped them off that she will be performing.
Rihanna will collect the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at tonight’s MTV VMAs at Madison Square Garden and celebrate the accolade with a substantial performance. Previous winners of the prestigious award including Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake have delivered sets that lasted up to 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, Kanye West – a regular headline-maker at the VMAs, where he famously stormed the stage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech in 2009 – has reportedly been given a four-minute slot by MTV “to do whatever he pleases”.
Other confirmed performers at this year’s MTV VMAs include Britney Spears, Future, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas with Ty Dolla $ign and the Chainsmokers with Halsey. Kim Kardashian West, Jaden Smith, Rita Ora, Diddy and Alicia Keys will be among those handing out trophies on the night.
