Biffy Clyro‘s Simon Neil has debuted a solo track, entitled ‘To The Bone’.
The song was recorded by Neil under the name ZZC and is part of the the BBC’s forthcoming Radio 1 Rescores: Drive project, which sees a host of artists, including Chvrches, Foals and SBTRKT, contributing to a brand new version of the Drive soundtrack. Listen to the track below.
The 2011 film, which was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and stars Ryan Gosling, will be broadcast on October 30 at 10pm on BBC Three complete with new soundtrack. Neil’s song was broadcast earlier this evening on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show. Speaking to Lowe, Neil said: “It was a nice, different challenge to write something off the visuals.” He explained that the slow-burning, piano-led ballad will feature in a scene towards the end of the film. “The music just flowed out, working to a beautiful movie like that gives you a lot of inspiration.”
Concerning the controversy that the project has attracted, he said: “It’s a tribute to the soundtrack rather than an escape.” Other artists involved include The 1975, Baauer, Banks, Bastille, Bring Me The Horizon, Eric Prydz, Jon Hopkins, Laura Mvula and The Neighbourhood.
Speaking about the project, Refn has commented: “I consider it a great honour that my movie Drive inspired so many wonderful artists to come together and create one ultra-cool glam experience.”
The original score featured music from Kavinsky, College featuring Electric Youth and Chromatics.
