UK ‘BIG BROTHER’ winner CRAIG PHILLIPS has signed a contract with WEA Records, in spite of the fact that “I didn’t even realise I could sing”.
With a degree of inevitability, the Liverpool builder will be unleashing a Christmas single, ‘At This Time Of Year’, against strong seasonal competition from the likes of Westlife and Eminem as the first fruits of a £500,000, five album deal with the label. The team behind hits for Cher, a1 and Ricky Martin are working on the project. “I never realised I had a voice before,” Craig announces. “But I surprised myself – it’s actually pretty good. I recorded the track in two days and I’m really pleased with the end result.”
It will be hoped that Craig’s efforts will reflect his success in ‘Big Brother’. Evictee Nichola’s pop trance single ‘The Game’ failed to set the chart alight in spite of the fact that she had been signed by the man who had made successes of Robson & Jerome and ‘London’s Burning”s Stephen Houghton.
On winning ‘Big Brother’, Craig donated his winnings to friend Joanne Harris in order to fund urgent surgery in America. Half the royalties from ‘At This Time Of Year’ will also go to Harris, though it is unknown where the remaining 50% will go.
