Big Star’s ‘Third’ to get deluxe reissue

The reissue will feature new mixes and demos of Big Star's cult classic

Big Star’s classic album ‘Third’ is to be reissued together with previously unreleased demos.

The new deluxe version of the 1978 album will feature 69 tracks including original demos, rough mixes, early mixes, vocal takes and a cover of the Velvet Underground’s ‘After Hours’.

As a whole, the reissue will give fans an in-depth insight into the making of the record.

‘Third’ was recorded in chaotic circumstances in 1975 with the band disintegrating and the declining mental state of singer Alex Chilton. By the time it was released Big Star had already split.

Accompanying the release of the reissue will be a photo book that documents the band’s entire career. It will feature previously unseen photographs and interviewers with photographers and drummer Jody Stephens.

Both ’Complete Third’ and the photobook are due out in October.
