A host of British comedy legends appear in the video for Billy Bragg‘s new single, ‘Handyman Blues’.
The promo was directed by comedian Johnny Vegas and sees Phill Jupitus, Stewart Lee, Neil Morrissey, Ross Noble, Kevin Eldon, Ricky Grover and Samuel West as well as Vegas himself taking part in a self-help group at a DIY store. Click above to watch the video, which also sees a cameo from Bragg and was filmed at a branch of Wickes in Uxbridge.
Speaking about directing the video, Vegas commented: “It’s not every day that you get to direct a video for a genuine icon, especially one as respected and admired as Billy is”. ‘Handyman Blues’ is taken from Bragg’s most recent album, ‘Tooth & Nail’. He plays Manchester Band On The Wall tonight (June 4) and London Union Chapel tomorrow (June 5).
Robbie Williams recently spoke out in favour of Billy Bragg, saying he thinks the current UK music scene is in need of a few rebellious voices like Bragg and The Clash to stand up against the government.
Williams told The Sun: “There used to be something to rebel against. I think there is plenty to rebel against right now, especially with what is happening with the world, with how people are being treated by governments and the recession… But there seems to be a great apathy. Where are the Billy Braggs and The Clashes? It’s good to have a place to go and complain.”
