Billy Bragg cancels US tour to mourn his mother

Singer’s mother loses battle with pancreatic cancer

Billy Bragg has cancelled his spring US tour due the death of his mother.

The singer/songwriter is expected to reschedule the tour, which was due to start on Thursday (March 24) at Maine‘s Stone Mountain Arts Center.

On Saturday (March 19) Bragg tweeted to fans from “After a long and active life and a short illness, my mother Marie passed away yesterday, surrounded by her family.”


He later added: “Thank you for all the kind sentiments that have been expressed via Twitter in the past few days.”

Writing on on March 17 of her illness, he had explained that he had travelled to be by her side for her last days.

“Her health has deteriorated to such a critical extent in the past week that I am now unable to fulfill these dates,” he had written. “As her life slips away, I feel that my place is by her side.”
