Black Eyed Peas knock JLS off the top spot

Plus Michael Jackson is still Number One in the album charts

Black Eyed Peas have knocked JLS off the top of the UK’s Official Singles Chart with their second Number One of 2009 ‘I Gotta Feeling’.

The feat comes in the same week that the Los Angeles-based quartet set the record for the group with the longest successive stay at the top of the US Chart, the Billboard Hot 100, having reigned at number one for 17 straight weeks (12 with the single ‘Boom Boom Pow’ and five for ‘I Gotta Feeling’).

In the Official Albums Chart, Michael Jackson spends a sixth week at Number One (five with ‘The Essential’ and one with ‘Number Ones’) – longer than any other artist so far this year.

‘The Essential’ is also the best-selling artist album of the year so far.

In the month since his death, Jackson has clocked up over two million record sales (singles and albums) and a number of chart records, according to The Official Charts Company.

These include a record four out of the Top 5 entries in the albums chart and most ever entries in the UK singles chart, with a total of 27 out of the Top 75 entries.

This week Jackson still has nine albums in the Top 50, four of which are in this week’s Top 20.

Elsewhere in the albums chart, Florence And The Machine holds on to the Number Two slot for the fourth consecutive week, and Reverend And The Makers go in at Number 19 with their second album ‘A French Kiss In The Chaos’.
