Black Lips‘ Jared Swilley has described their forthcoming new album as “the best thing we’ve ever done”.
The Atlanta band, who recently finished the follow-up to 2009’s ‘200 Million Thousand’, have been working with producer Mark Ronson.
“We really wanted to do it [work with Ronson],” Swilley told InterviewMagazine.com. “Just because we’d never worked with a producer before, and we wanted to see what it was like. And it turned out being really awesome.”
As for how their fifth studio effort sounds, the bassist and vocalist explained that it’s “not a radical departure” from previous albums.
“It doesn’t sound like an arena-rock record, or electro or anything,” he admitted. “I just think it’s arranged really well and the sounds are really good. It’s not a radical departure, but I think it’s by far the best thing we’ve ever done.”
“There’s theremin [on the album],” he continued. “And we found this saw player, he plays with the symphony and on Broadway all the time, he’s one of only two people in the world, or so he says, that can keep perfect pitch on a saw. And we have horns in some places.”
The group have yet to announce a release date for their as-yet untitled album.
