Black Sabbath and Dio frontman Ronnie James Dio dies aged 67

Singer passes away after losing his battle with stomach cancer

Black Sabbath and Dio singer Ronnie James Dio has died after losing his battle with stomach cancer.

The 67-year-old singer, who passed away early this morning (May 16), was diagnosed last November and seemed to be making good progress earlier this year.

He was being treated at M.D. Anderson in Houston before he died.

His wife and manager Wendy Dio posted a statement on his official site which read: “Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May.

“Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us.”

She added: “Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.”

The singer, who replaced Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath in 1979, fronted Heaven & Hell and Dio before his death.
