Black Sabbath drummer BILL WARD will not be joining the re-united Sabbath for their upcoming European Ozzfest gigs after being hospitalised on Wednesday (May 20).
Though there are no details of Ward’s illness, the drummer is said to be still in hospital in London after falling ill during band rehearsals. The Ozzfest tour was to have re-united the original Sabbath – Ozzy Osbourne, Bill Ward, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler – for their first major tour since 1978. They briefly re-united for some British gigs last year.
Ward’s replacement is Vinny Appice, who drummed for Black Sabbath between 1980 and 1983, when the band was fronted by Ronnie James Dio. Appice will join other members for rehearsals in Wales next week.
The tour kicks off in Nuremburg, Germany, on May 29.
