Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke explains reasons for releasing solo album – video

'I can have time off when I'm an old man!' singer tells NME

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke has explained why he has decided to go solo.

In a video interview with NME, which you can watch at the side of the screen now, Okereke said he and the rest of Bloc Party had a meeting in 2009 to chat about their future.

“In 2009, we had a conversation between the four of us about what we were going to be doing for the following year,” Okereke explained.

“Basically, some of the others wanted to have some time off, and I was like, ‘Well, if we have time off I’m going to do my own thing really, for a year’. That’s pretty much how it came about. I’m 28 and I can have time off when I’m an old man!”
