Drummer says he 'wouldn't mind trying something else for a while'
Bloc Party drummer Matt Tong has fuelled rumours he will quit the band by hinting that he may not work with them again.
Frontman Kele Okereke recently revealed the group are set to go on a hiatus following their current tour – but Tong has implied he fancies a complete change, at least while the group are on their break.
“I definitely don’t think this will be the last you’ll hear of the people who make up Bloc Party,” he said. “Kele is an insatiable workaholic and creating is something he is so connected to, so you’ll definitely hear from him again, along with Russell [Lissack, guitar] and Gordon [Moakes, bass]. As for me, I don’t know, I wouldn’t mind trying something else for a while.”
However, Tong told BBC Subculture the band hope their hiatus will leave them revitalised.
“We definitely need to have a break and gain a bit of perspective on life outside of the band,” he said. “Hopefully if we do reconvene at some point in the future we’ll be refreshed and have so many ideas to bring to what it is we do.”
