The Strokes singer Julian Casablancas stars in the video for Blood Orange’s new song ‘Augustine’.
Casablancas is seen sharing fried chicken with Blood Orange mainan Dev Hynes in the video, which Hynes also directed.
‘Augustine’ is the first video for Blood Orange’s new album ‘Freetown Sound’. Originally due for release on July 1, it was released early instead yesterday (June 27).
‘Freetown Sound’ is named after the capital of Sierra Leone, where Hynes’ father is from, and features a host of guests. These include Blondie singer Debbie Harry, Carly Rae Jepsen, Nelly Furtado, Empress Of, Bob Marley’s granddaughter Zuri Marley, Starchild, Bea1991, Ian Isiah, Ta-Nehisi C, Kelsey Lu and Ava Rain.
It follows 2013’s ‘Cupid Deluxe’ and is produced by Hynes. A deluxe vinyl edition adds Blood Orange’s single ‘Do You See My Skin Through The Flames?’, which also contained the song ‘Sandra’s Smile’.
‘Freetown Sound’ also features quotes from De La Soul, Vince Staples, Ashlee Haze and Venus Xtravaganza.
Blood Orange plays at Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time on Saturday with Florence And The Machine, Kendrick Lamar, Jamie xx and Cat Power, before a one-off headline homecoming show at London Koko on July 5. He returns to the US on July 15 for four shows.
