Watch Blossoms predict the opening weekend’s Premier League scores

Stockport five-piece have also gone straight to Number One with their self-titled debut album

Blossoms have gone head to head with BBC Match Of The Day pundit Mark Lawrenson in predicting the scores for the opening weekend of the Premier League.

The Stockport band’s frontman Tom Ogden, who is a staunch Manchester City fan, and bassist Charlie Salt gave their verdict on this week’s scores.

Ogden, who is a former Manchester City season ticket holder, told the BBC Sport he grew up idolising former striker Paul Dickov. You can watch the pair talking via the BBC.

“I wrote his name on the back of my City shirt in black marker,” he said. “My mum wasn’t too happy about that.

“I don’t miss those days when we were struggling, though. You want to be winning the league, don’t you? Dickov is still my hero because he was playing for us when I first got into football but Sergio Aguero is the man.

“Obviously there is a charm in being everyone’s second favourite team when you are in Division One but I much prefer to be where we are now, with Pep Guardiola as manager and having won the title twice in the past four years.”

Salt supports his home town team despite County’s drop into non-league football, but also follows Liverpool.

“I’m biased but I’d love to see us win the league,” he explained. “That’s not just because I am a fan but for Jurgen Klopp’s sake – I think he is such a character, he is good for the game.”

The pair predicted a 4-0 win for Man City’s opening fixture against Sunderland tomorrow (August 13). They were not so kind to their rivals Manchester United who they put down for an unlikely 5-0 away defeat to Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, last week’s NME cover stars shot straight to Number One tonight (August 12) with their self-titled debut album tonight.
