Graham Coxon: ‘We gave each other black eyes in Blur’ – video

Guitarist also tells of epic row after Alex James threw a salmon out of the window

Graham Coxon has revealed that Blur gave each other black eyes while on tour in America in 1992.

Speaking to NME backstage at Glastonbury in a video which you can see at the top of the page, Coxon said the bust up occurred when the band were exhausted on an early North American tour.

Asked if he’d ever been involved in a band punch up, he replied: “Blur did occasionally when we were very tired in 1992 in America. I think we all had black eyes at one point. We were probably drunk when we gave each other black eyes so we didn’t really feel it, we just woke up with them.”

Coxon also revealed that the band had a large scale argument after bassist Alex James threw a salmon out of a window in Paris.

Asked what the biggest argument he’d ever been involved in was, Coxon said: “I think when Alex [James] threw a salmon out of the window in Paris and we were really upset with him. He was being fanatically vegetarian.”

Coxon also revealed that he would be releasing a new solo album later in the year, but that Blur had not spent any time working on new material of late.
