Blur’s Alex James to make cheese for Prince Charles

Bassist says everyone should be able to afford royal cheese

Blurs’ Alex James is to make cheese for Prince Charles.

The bassist, who reformed with Blur this year, will begin to supply cheese by royal appointment after agreeing a deal with the Prince of Wales.

Estate managers at Highgrove House have asked James work on half a million litres of organic milk. The cheese will then be sold through the Dutchy of Cornwall‘s estate.

James told The Times “It will be the poshest cheese in the world but it’s only going to cost £3. I think everyone should be able to afford royal cheese.”

After Blur went on hiatus in 2003 Alex James focused on farming, and has since won awards for his cheese.

A spokesman for the Prince said: “Duchy Originals is delighted to be working with Alex James, one of Britain’s most exciting and passionate new cheese makers, to produce a cheese using the milk from the herd of Ayrshire cows on the Duchy Home Farm.”
