Exclusive to NME: Album and single news for 1999...

Blur have finished recording their new album – and a track called ‘Tender Is The Night‘ is being tipped as the first single.

A band spokeswoman said they were currently in London’s Sarm Studios with producer William Orbit giving the album its “final tweaks”. It is expected to be released in March, with the single preceding it in February.

Tender…’, described as “anthemic”, is the current band favourite to be the first single from the album although the final decision has not yet been made.

The words “Tender is the night” open the song, which later goes into a chorus where DAMON ALBARN sings: “Love is the greatest thing”. It concludes with a gospel choir. It’s described as being a bit like JOHN LENNON‘s ‘Give Peace A Chance‘ and THE ROLLING STONES‘ ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want‘.

Will the next Blur album be the salvation of British pop or are they a spent force? Have your say. Post a message on Angst!
