Blur are to play a pre-Glastonbury warm-up gig at Bath Pavilions on June 25. Tickets are on sale now priced ‘15.00 plus booking fee, phone 01179 299 608.
The band will also play a fanclub only gig at the Birmingham Que Club on June 24. Support on both dates will come from labelmates Idlewild.
Blur guitarist Graham Coxon (far right in pic) releases a solo album in August on his own label Transcopic. A spokeswoman for Transcopic, which Coxon set up earlier this year, told NME: “I don’t know what people will make of it. I mean, Graham brings certain things to Blur, but on his own, he’s an individual in his own right. It certainly doesn’t sound like Blur.” The album, which is as yet untitled, is being released in July in Japan and hits the UK shops the following month.
The spokeswoman added it was unlikely that Coxon would be releasing any singles around the album launch. “It’s very doubtful, because it’s a very low-key album release. It’s all very minimal!” she said. The debut release from Transcopic, by Assembly Line People Programme and produced by Graham, also hits the Japanese market in July, followed by a UK release in September.
Blur’s own spokeswoman said, however, that Graham would be returning to regular Blur commitments as soon the World Cup football tournament was over. Blur are due to play festival gigs at Glastonbury and the London Royal Festival Hall Meltdown.
