Bob Geldof delivered a speech this week discussing the state of society post-Brexit, urging students to ‘stop banging on about transgender toilets’ and focus elsewhere.
The Boomtown Rats icon and philanthropist was delivering a talk to students at the Trinity College Dublin Law Society, where he encouraged them all to become political activists in these challenging times.
He urged them to focus on the fact that some people “hadn’t had a pay rise for eight years and you are banging on about transgender toilets” – reports Pink News.
“Europe desperately needs reform; it is sclerotic, constipated, it needs some laxative to clear it out,” he continued. “You guys are inheriting a deeply significant moment. My generation has failed more spectacularly than most – you have Brexit, Trump, the referendum in Italy, le Pen in France…”
Speaking of Brexit, he added: “Just as it is my democratic duty to accept the result, it is my duty to argue against it”.
Geldof’s anti-Brexit campaign came to a climax back in Spring when he fell into a boat race down the Thames against UKIP’s Nigel Farage.
Geldof’s boat arrived by the side of Farage’s while blaring out Dobie Gray’s ‘I’m With The In Crowd’ from speakers, drowning out a speech Farage was giving to the media and his supporters.
He went on to label Farage as “no fisherman’s friend”, while Farage called Geldof’s stunt “ignorant” and “insulting”.
