Bon Iver launches new album with intimate Berlin gig

'22, A Million' was played in full in the courtyard of the Michelberger Hotel

Bon Iver launched their new album ’22, A Million’ last night by playing the record in front of an intimate crowd at Berlin’s Michelberger Hotel.

Bon Iver’s first album since their 2011 self-titled record will be officially released tomorrow (September 30). The album was recorded at April Base Studios in Fall Creek, Wisconsin, as well as in London and Lisbon, while the artwork has been designed by New York-based artist Eric Timothy Carlson. Bandleader Justin Vernon has already played the record live in full, debuting the album’s material at his own Eaux Claires Festival in Wisconsin this summer.

Last night’s show was part of an experimental music festival taking place at Berlin’s Funkhaus venue, which sees a number of musicians from bands such as The National, Alt-J, The Staves and more collaborating and working on new material together. As well as playing ’22, A Million’ in the outdoor courtyard of the hotel, the band also played ‘Creature Fear’ from 2007 debut ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’.

Bon Iver will tour in support of the new LP during October in North America, before hitting the road again in Europe during January and February of next year. UK dates will take place in London, Blackpool and Edinburgh.
