The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen is now open in the singer's hometown
Bon Jovi frontman Jon Bon Jovi has opened a new ‘pay what you want’ restaurant in New Jersey.
The restaurant, which has been named The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen, was formally opened yesterday (October 20) in Sayreville, the frontman’s hometown.
The eatery only serves organic food and operates a policy where diners pay either a suggested donation or pay for their food by putting in volunteers hours in the restaurant. Jon Bon Jovi has said that the eatery is attempting to rid the world of its traditional view of a soup kitchen for homeless people and improve things.
He told New York Magazine :
You imagine a tray service type of soup kitchen and it’s the opposite. Picture the coolest brasserie in your hometown, that’s what this is. It’s the hottest-looking restaurant in this town. We have to get rid of a few stigmas attached to the word volunteering and making a difference.
Sometimes you need to get away so people can appreciate you better. The best thing I can tell you is we’re going to need a couple of years off for sure.
The band scored the highest grossing tour of 2010, which included a 12-night residency at London‘s O2 Arena.
