Brand New announce new album via mysterious email

The email also advertises a cassette of leaked demos from 2006

Brand New have confirmed a 2016 release for their fifth album, the first since 2009’s ‘Daisy’, via a mysterious email from their label, Procrastinate! Music Traitors.

The email says that the album will be available in an “unconfirmed format”, while other records on the same label will be released on vinyl.

Last year the Long Island band shared their first song in six years, ‘Mene’, along with the statement, “A lot has gone on the last few weeks. Some writing, some recording, some new gear, some studio building.”

Since then they have made no further announcements about the record, but in October the band’s singer Jesse Lacey delivered an emotional speech at a live show, hinting at both a new album and the end of the group, calling that gig their last “for a while”.

A tearful Lacey told the crowd during the gig: “I’m gonna have a new daughter. We’ll hopefully have a record for you. I wanna tell you right here and now, this isn’t gonna last much longer, but it’s been so special for so long. For as long as it does last, we’re so grateful to you all for being here.”

The news comes days after an announcement that the band will co-headline a US tour with Modest Mouse where they will play 24 dates in June and July.

The tour closes on the last day of July in Modest Mouse’s hometown of Portland, Oregon. Modest Mouse described the shows on their Facebook page as “two bands, full sets, no opener.”

Very excited to announce this! Presale starts at noon EST TODAY. Public on sale Friday at noon local time. Tickets:
