Brandon Flowers and Donald Cumming performed a cover of New York Dolls frontman David Johansen’s ‘Heart of Gold’ live at the House of Blues in Boston last night (August 3). Click above to watch fan-recorded footage.
Cumming, best known as the founder of post-punk band The Virgins, has been supporting Flowers on his recent American tour and was invited back on stage for a live rendition of the track. ‘Heart of Gold’ was originally released on Johansen’s 1981 solo album ‘Here Comes the Night’.
Flowers recently released a live video for ‘I Can Change’, a track from his chart-topping album ‘The Desired Effect’. The song, which features a sample from Bronski Beat’s 1984 single ‘Smalltown Boy’, serves as the fourth single from the LP. It also features an appearance from Pet Shop Boys’ singer Neil Tennant, who makes a brief spoken word cameo.
The video was recorded at Flowers’ recent solo shows at London’s Brixton Academy, which took place in May. ‘The Desired Effect’, which was released shortly before the Brixton shows, is The Killers singer’s second solo effort following 2010’s ‘Flamingo’.
Cumming, meanwhile, recently released his first solo album, ‘Out Calls Only’.
